Doppler ultrasound, or Doppler sonography, refers to vascular examination using ultrasound technology to obtain images of blood vessels, registering the direction and speed of blood flow. This method allows assessment of disease-related changes and the functional condition of blood vessels. It is used to examine blood vessels in the head, heart, lungs, arms, and legs—both arteries and veins. It is particularly recommended for diagnosing the aforementioned health conditions. Moreover, this technology detects early stages of atherosclerosis-related processes and deep vein damage in the legs.
A specialized device registers blood flow direction and speed in blood vessels, enabling assessment of disease-related changes and vascular function. Doppler ultrasound is often used as an additional diagnostic method alongside echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart).
It is used for both diagnosis and evaluating the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
Doppler ultrasound precisely identifies cerebrovascular disorders, narrowing of blood vessels in the brain, and their severity. This method of assessing these disorders is known as neurosonography. It is equally effective in examining blood vessels in the arms and legs. Frequently, enlargement of leg veins is directly associated with damage to deep veins, detectable only through this examination.
Doppler ultrasound is painless and harmless, with no age restrictions. Patients receive results immediately after the examination.
The doctor has been working as a certified radiologist since 2017. He gained his experience working at RAKUS clinic "Gaiļezers", where he specialised in emergency and vascular radiology. He has also specialised in US examinations of abdominal organs, thyroid glands and testicles.
As the doctor himself emphasises, modern medicine requires continuous updating of knowledge and skills, therefore the specialist regularly participates in international congresses and courses. He has become a member of the European and Latvian Association of Radiologists and the Latvian Ultrasonography Association.
The specialist shares his knowledge and experience in training radiology residents.
At Premium Medical, the specialist performs the following examinations:
The doctor provides consultations in Latvian, Russian and English.
Maija Radziņa has been a certified diagnostic radiologist since 2006. Learned various imaging diagnostic methods (radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography) during her radiology residency in Latvia and during her internship at university clinics in London (UK), Boston (USA), Graz (Austria). Regularly improves knowledge at conferences and courses in Latvia and Europe. Since 2011 she has been the head of the Latvian Association of Ultrasonographers, a member of the Board of the Latvian Association of Radiologists, a member of the Latvian Professional Associations of Musculoskeletal Radiology and others. Maija regularly organises continuing education courses for doctors in ultrasonography and participates in the daily training of students and residents in radiology at the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. Provides consultations in Latvian, Russian and English.
Extensive experience in emergency radiology, diagnosis of vascular pathologies . Specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular pathologies, radiofrequency ablation of tumours, transarterial chemoembolisation, pain-relieving invasive treatment of knee deformity. Performs ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity (liver, gall bladder, bile ducts, spleen, pancreas), Dopplerography of the vessels of the head and neck, Dopplerography of the leg vessels (veins and arteries), etc. Provides consultations in Latvian, Russian and English.
